The follow-up story to the prequel tale of the smash-hit video game of 2017 is here with Injustice 2 Vol. 4! Batman and Superman are back at it each trying to save the world by rescuing it from the other one.

Steel (Natasha Irons) leads a task force in protecting the President-elect at the inauguration. Batman's team is on the verge of breaking free from Ra's al Ghul's jungle stronghold, but the Dark Knight himself gets tangled up with Poison Ivy.

However, when a larger battle breaks out, Blue Beetle thinks he's coming to save the day, but his inexperience leads instead to disaster...and death.

From best-selling writer Tom Taylor, scribe of the original Injustice Gods Among Us graphic novel series, comes Injustice 2 Vol. 4! Collects issues #21-26.

"The first few volumes of Injustice 1 were excellent. Then the story went haywire as the fighting escalated and went on endlessly, with people changing sides and making compromises that were totally out of character. The first volumes of Injustice 2 were a return to form (though not to the heights of the first trades). Once again, we've returned to the boring tactic of heroes changing sides (this is supposed to be dramatic and excite us) and new threats emerging. This has gone completely off the rails from the original story - Superman going nuts after the Joker killed a pregnant Lois Lane. Now this is just being written to sell books in an ongoing series, which goes completely against the point of an elseworld story.

The advantage of elseworld (or What If?) stories are that the creative team can make major changes and kill of characters. Now, we have characters in this elseworld story being brought back. Ludicrous."

  • In my review of “Injustice 2 Volume 3,” I wrote “I’m actually running out of things to say about this series Tom Taylor is delivering, for my money, the best ongoing series that DC is currently publishing.” One volume later, and I literally have nothing else to bring to the table this series still rocks, Taylor’s story is as compelling as ever, and the art by Bruno Redondo and Mike S. Miller is almost always top-notch (which, when you consider that this is a digital-first series, released WEEKLY, is doubly impressive). “Injustice 2” is proof that videogame-inspired fiction have the potential to be every bit as great as any other types of stories.

From the critically acclaimed author of Hekla's Children comes a dark and haunting tale of our world and the next.

Fleeing from a traumatic break-in, Londoners Paul and Tricia Feenan sell up to escape to the isolated Holiwell village where Tricia has inherited a property. Scattered throughout the settlement are centuries-old stones used during the Great Plague as boundary markers. No plague-sufferer was permitted to pass them and enter the village. The plague diminished, and the village survived unscathed, but since then each year the village trustees have insisted on an ancient ceremony to renew the village boundaries, until a misguided act by the Feenans' son then reminds the village that there is a reason traditions have been rigidly stuck to, and that all acts of betrayal, even those committed centuries ago, have consequences...

I Still Believe The truth is not as black and white as it seems Hazel McBride 9781798720806 Books Reviews

  • This was an amazing book, anti or pro captivity i think both side can get something out of this book, it’s an inspiring story of someone with a passion and a goal in mind and is determine and found a job she loves with passion. On one hand toy might be anti captivity and believe these animals should be freed. But after reading this book, we have a fresh new view of captivity from a current trainer. We might not agree about rather an animal should be captive but just to see her passion and love for the animals is what brought both side together here. I loved that it gave inside information to whales SeaWorld seem to have forgotten, and while everything isn’t fun and pretty as a trainer, reading about the ups and downs of her dream! This book capture a fresh new view of the current negative captivity side effect and it offers a brighter view of the situation. And gives a very nice positive prospective and not to mention inspiring for one person dream and goal and the determinations of reaching the goals.
  • This book gives a great looking into the life of killer whales and trainers. Hazel dives into the complexities of marine mammal captivity and training. This book is truly for anyone on either side of the captivity issue. The author explains subjects like sea pens, the evolution of animal training, and the social structures of killer whales in captivity. It is truly an eye opener and insight to the long and difficult journey of becoming killer whale trainer. Full of touching and inspiring stories that bring light into the rough waters of animal training. In the end the message is for all of us to understand our differences but come together for the animals who need us most.
  • Whether you're an aspiring marine mammal trainer, love dolphins and whales or maybe you have questions and/or concerns about orcas in human care, this book is right for you! Hazel weaves her life's passion through this incredible book and I felt myself with her on every step of her journey.

She goes very in depth through all aspects of working with killer whales and doesn't sugar coat it, either. Working with the ocean's apex predator is by no means a breeze, but that love for the animals truly makes it all worth it! It's so important to understand what happens behind the scenes when working with these animals, especially with so much misinformation out there. And how Hazel describes it is very immersive, from the subtle body language of their whales the trainers become attuned to, to the training process and decisions behind it, it really is thorough!

Enter a world you never could have dreamed of, read of the profound connection to remarkable individual animals and open your heart and mind to a whole new perspective!
  • I purchased and finished reading this book in one day. I just couldn't put it down! It was so well written and I enjoyed following her life story so far. I appreciated her honesty and passion for the animals. A must read for all!
  • I’m going to start this off by saying I am anti- cap. I have been ever since free Willy came out when I was 5. However, I have never been closed minded and I was very excited to read a book by a current trainer who believes that there is something to be gained by keeping orcas in tanks. I’ve read many books on the subject, both pro and anti captivity. I just can’t “believe” that someone can work with orca every day and think that keeping them in tanks is in any way okay. It’s obvious that all orca trainers LOVE the animals they work with... they must be able to see that a sea sanctuary would make their animals happier! They can’t actually think that floating lifeless in a tank between silly circus performances is an acceptable way for these creatures to live ... I was hoping I could understand more about pro-cap, but I don’t. I’m proud of this girl for self-publishing, but I feel like she gives no credence to the real problems captive orcas have. It is painfully obvious that she didn’t do much fact checking and definitely didn’t talk to any orca scientists with a PhD. She openly admits the stereotypical behavior dolphins exhibited in captivity and criticized ideas like sea sanctuary without doing any research into what has been proposed by experts like Dr. Ingrid Visser - if she had, she would know that things like a med pool section ARE and have ALWAYS been part of a proposed sanctuary as well as multiple sea pens for the animals to be separated if necessary. She openly talks about the aggression displayed by captive dolphins against her and guests. I believe that some day, she will see that tanks are not the appropriate place for these sentient mammals. If you want to read a book with more factual information and much better editing, read John Hargrove’s book “beneath the surface.” He was a trainer for MUCH LONGER, both at Sea World facilities and at the same marine part that Hazel currently works at in France. I truly believe she will some day come to regret this book and will write another.
  • This book was wrote for everyone. It is meant to be read by pros, antis, dreamers, people interested in animals, people hoping to get inspired, people looking to learn something new, etc. It is full of inspiring stories and shows the reality of working in an animal related field. The book is written with such exquisite imagery that allows us as readers to connect and truly live each situation with Hazel. It contains up to date information about marine parks and animal care practices, shows the good, the bad and the hard things that come with becoming an animal trainer. I absolutely recommend this! )
  • So incredible to learn what it takes to work with animals! I couldn't put it down
  • I loved this book! As an aspiring marine mammal trainer, I loved reading Hazel’s story. She went into so much detail and gave a lot of insider information that hopefully will inspire people!

See You in the Piazza New Places to Discover in Italy Frances Mayes 9780451497697 Books Reviews

  • Great read, can’t wait to visit some of these places. Hope they don’t become “Rick Steve’ed“ before we get there. One of my all time favorite travel books
  • Always enjoy this author’s travel memoirs. The descriptions of the towns, people, and food give me a vicarious trip to Italy. I never really thought about Italy or wanted to go there before reading her books about it. I’m looking forward to trying some of the recipes.
  • I really liked this travelogue. The author starts north in Torino and moves south geographically instead of her actual chronology. She is very descriptive and tells some stories about their travels in many cases but in some instance just lists restaurant and places to go. I would have like more detail in those spots. I like that she has added recipes and plan on trying a few. This book makes me want to get online and book a trip right now. I also like that she included links to reading material related to the place so that I can get further information on interesting topics. However, I have two major gripes with this book. The first is a lack of a map of any kind. I know, I can go to google maps and look something up but it is tedious, time consuming and breaks the flow of the book. The second is a lack of photos. I wanted photos of some of the specific places or foods she talked about but I also wanted pictures of the finished product in the recipes. When she described an egg stall at a market, I wanted to see the multishaped, multicolored eggs. When she described a carved, green marble ambo in a church, I wanted to see it. This book would have been much more powerful and interesting with photos. I think these are major flaws that hopefully will be fixed by publication. I’ll give it three stars now but would give it four of five if maps and photos are added. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me an ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
  • Italy. What a wonderful place to visit! Simply the word conjures up the famous landmarks – The Colosseum, the Roman Forum, The Grand Canal of Venice, Michelangelo’s David, and much more. But, Frances Mayes latest book, See You in the Piazza, goes beyond these well-known places and takes the reader to the areas seldom mentioned in travel brochures or guidebooks.

Ms Mayes lives in Italy part-time so she has the ability and the time to take the roads less travelled. As a result, the reader will enjoy the historic and cultural places she explores. The prose is delightful even when describing a flat tire north of Bologna and, especially, when describing the sights, smells and sounds of Italy. She often includes details of their meals, along with some very tempting recipes.

See You in the Piazza takes the reader off the beaten path. It’s a wonderful book for anyone who has visited Italy or contemplates a trip in the future. And, be sure to have a map handy so you can visual the areas and plan your own adventures. Thumbs up, Ms Mayes. Thank you for taking me to Italy with you!

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing a copy of this book for review.
  • newbie author to me, France Mayes ... i look forward to reading more from her soon enough!! love the cover!! now i have seen the movie " Under The Tuscan Sun" with Diane Lane a billion times, love that movie, i am curious if it follows the authors read to the tee or what? I was super lucky to get an ARC ...not sure if this was a Goodreads giveaway or? no literature was in the book when i got it shipped to me??! love that when that happens but wish i knew who to thank??! thanks!! i love cooking, recipes ... i would love to see Italy and Australia ...yet to get to travel overseas. we have many locations in the US and Canada. so it was like this book was meant for me ... to tide me over a bit ..while i wait to see Italy ... i know i am part Italian ... i just gotta be ...not that i have been told so but i feel it. lol! no clue. just wish i was. i am not the only one to feel it was really a great trip to Italy ... like u were there ... will they make it a movie?
  • 4.5 stars

Mayes brings her delectable writing style to the pages of this travelogue/memoir/guide for all of us who wish we could take two weeks to walk in her shoes. Italy isn't just a place but an attitude and way of living, something Mayes makes clear through gently describing the distinctions between one little town and another.

This is not a book you pick up with your map in hand to help you plan your trip to Italy so much as it is like a first date (or first date in a long time) with the Italian way to spend your day. Yes, she has the book organized in such a way that you could look up the province and town you want to visit to see her recommendations. However, she doesn't cover every little town (nor should she, as this isn't Frommer's) and she presents them in a well-organized tapestry of anecdotes of her experiences there. Mayes implies so much about what it means to be Italian and live like one without having to hold your hand to communicate it.

Read it because I have a feeling you'll learn how to appreciate Italy after you travel through it with her. Perhaps you'll even find a way to sit in a cafe around your own corner and ponder with peaceful quiet the way she can in Italy. You'll get both story and guide in this book. Thank you, Frances Mayes! Now I'm saving up for another trip to Italy!

Billionaire Thirst Billionaire Daddies Series Book 4 edition by Lauren Wood Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

  • I received this book as a free gift to read in advance and I would like to give an opinion of what I read.

I have read several of Lauren’s books but this one just seemed different to me...not in a bad way. I should have made that clear at first. In this book Lauren is slowly letting out the little secrets that some of the characters have. I kept asking myself what was motivating Bo to try and stay away from David when it was clear that she really did love him. For some reason she seemed to be thinking that she had done it for his own good but why? David was heartbroken when Bo had left without any warning or any word ten years before. Not that his sister didn’t take every opportunity to tell him how bad Bo had been for him. They were just kids back then. David worked on Clinton Duvall’s ranch starting from the ground up. After Bo left he just concentrated on the ranch. Clinton was beginning to become ill, and it wasn’t long that David was not just running the every things of the ranch but the business end as well. In the few years before Clinton’s death David had increased the ranches profits five times as to what the were before. So when Clinton passed away he willed everything that he ownded to David and now he was a billionaire.

Bo had become a journalist working for Forbes magazine. They were doing an expose about some of the billionaires that were rags to riches story and David was one of them. To Bo surprise her boss and editor had her to write the article on David and to try to get pictures of his ranch. Bo felt her boss was asking too much, however Bo never let on to anyone that she and David had a past. Can you imagine the shock on Davids face when he opened the door to see Bo there to do the interview? She eventually tells David about what her boss wanted but knowing that his sister was having her wedding that weekend at the ranch she didn’t want to impose. David however didn’t care and told her to be back to his city home in the morning and they would go to the ranch together.

Eva’s hatred was even stronger than ever when she saw Bo get out of the car. David was planning to make Bo his no matter what it took. But will he be able to. Will his sister interfere and mess things up for them? Or will something else happen that just may take him from her for good. This is a really good book one I know that any one will love to read.
  • David and Bo were in love once until Bo takes off without a word. Ten years later she is a journalist for Forbes magazine and she has to interview David for an article she is writing for the magazine. David hasn't been the same since Bo left, finding himself unable to love another woman and he has sworn he will never love again. He's caught by surprise when Bo shows up to do the interview and he is finding that all his old feelings for her are coming back and he is determined to not let her get away from him again. His sister, Eva, has other ideas. She has always hated Bo and she will do anything she can to keep David and Bo apart. Bo finds she must deal with her insecurities and Eva's hatred and David just wishes she would admit to herself that the two of them were meant to be. The road for David and Bo is rocky but it all works out in the end and David finally gets to be with the one that got away.

I received an ARC copy of this book and I am leaving my honest review voluntarily.
  • David and Bo are in love in the prologue. A beautiful, young love. Bo runs away from David with no explanation given.
Fast forward ten years. Their paths cross again thanks to Bo’s job—kind of. She really had unfinished business as did David. David had unfinished business with her as well.
The story line is a good one, I thought. The plot and characters are strong. Lots of drama, some steam, a few laughs along the way, and a good finish with an HEA ending.

  • This story is for the most part quite good, i.e. the story line is and the characters are quite good as well. What ruined the experience was the endless grammatical errors which made me think that either the author just doesn't know English well enough to write in it - perhaps it is not her language? or /and it has not been edited at all as I can't really believe that a professional editor would allow something to be sent off that was so wrong in so many places that even someone with the English language as their fourth language can spot all these errors and probably there are more for those who have perfect knowledge about the language, its nuances and all the grammar. Unfortunately this ruined my experience but because I like the story line and the way the story was flowing and the characters I decided that this story would get three stars and not two, it was saved by the bell...

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
  • David and Bo are ex-lovers. Bo disappeared and David never knew why she ended things between them. However he made it his mission to prove that he could make something of his "cowboy" ways. Bo is being sent to do and interview with David and is nervous about seeing him after all this time. Sparks reignite between them and its not long before David is trying to make Bo see they are meant to be together. Just as things are looking great for them his sister interferes and sends Bo reeling. David is terrified that she has cost him everything he wants. Will Bo stick around this time?

This is a great story that will captivate you from beginning to end. The chemistry between them is blazing hot. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.

I voluntarily read and reviewed this book.
